Write Once, Run Anywhere

When the Java programming language emerged in the mid ‘90s, it was accompanied by a worldwide campaign using this slogan, promising the software development community that a software product could be written on one machine and then executed on any machine in the world.

Of course, at the time, the WoM2 phenomenon was just discovered at MIT, so the marketing people responsible for this phrase probably were not aware of the fact that this is inherently impossible, because it contradicts what will soon become the most famous law of nature.
